Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Foundation Announce Creative Fusion: Composers Series

Cleveland, OH (August 23, 2018) – A new performing arts initiative is bringing six exceptional and diverse composers from around the world to the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA), where they will draw inspiration for original compositions to be performed in Cleveland over the next two years. With generous support from the Cleveland Foundation and its decade-long Creative Fusion program, the composers will immerse themselves in the city and the museum’s encyclopedic collection.

CLEVELAND (August 12, 2018) – The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) today released its first diversity, equity and inclusion plan. The plan outlines a comprehensive and concrete series of initiatives that will advance the CMA’s recently adopted strategic plan, Making Art Matter, as the museum activates and strengthens its commitment to all audiences.

Cleveland Museum of Art Announces New Acquisitions

CLEVELAND (June 17, 2018) – Significant recent acquisitions by the Cleveland Museum of Art include The Violin Player, a 17th-century genre painting by Dirck van Baburen; a drawing by Johannes Stradanus, a Netherlandish artist at the Medici court in Florence; an important painting from 1973 by the African American artist Emma Amos; a masterfully carved and unique wooden Bow Stand of the Luba people of south-central Democratic Republic of Congo; and an exceptional, silver-gilt and enamel cigar box by Russian goldsmith Peter Carl Fabergé.

Cleveland, OH (April 6, 2018) – Celebrate the artist Auguste Rodin (1840–1917) and the exhibition Rodin—100 Years. The evening includes a special tour highlighting the unsolved mystery of the bombing of The Thinker, programming designed to spark your cerebral cortex and your dance moves, signature cocktails and hip hop, house and world music by DJ Candi Fresca

The Cleveland Museum of Art Announces New Acquisitions

Cleveland, OH (March 14, 2018)—Recent acquisitions by the Cleveland Museum of Art include a magnificent portrait in oil on canvas by Carlo Maratti, the leading painter in Rome at the end of the 17th century; two key works by American photographer Edward Weston that indicate his transition from pictorialism to modernism; and two large-scale contemporary African sculptures by South African artist Kendell Geers and Cameroonian artist Hervé Youmbi.
